The S. Mission Beach Volleyball courts are open
for pickup games during most daylight hours, with the exception of scheduled tournaments, which
are occaisionally held there. Anytime is a good time to play.
If you would like to play competitive pickup volleyball, the best times are 4 PM till sunset
Tuesday-Thursday, and Saturday and Sunday mornings.
All courts are now using new court lines, and play is usually rally
scoring* to 21 with net serves**
allowed, put if you bring your own lines you can set up a court for classic play with the old ball
and side-out scoring***
*Rally scoring indicates that every play results in a point regardless of who served the ball.
** A net serve is a serve that hits the net before contacting a player on the receiving
side, and lands in the field of play on the receiving side.
***Side-out scoring means that only the team serving the ball can score a
point, and if they fail to do so, the receiving team obtains the serve.
| Please note that there are some basic
rules for playing on the courts at S. Mission Beach. |
| 1) |
You cannot reserve, or hold exclusive rights to any court at any time.
Anybody who wants to play, can challenge on any court. |
| 2) |
You can't challenge if you are currently playing on any court, and
your challenge will be lost if you play on any other court while waiting for your challenge. |
| 3) |
Challenges are made by verbal request to players currently playing on the
court, and there may be challenges ahead of you if the courts are crowded. |
| 4) |
If a player challenges for a game and doesn't have a partner, he/she can
pickup one of the players who just finished a game. |
| 5) |
Most Important, go out there and have fun! |
